Black Rooster Audio today released Magnetite, an homage to the sound of magnetic tape recorders. Dial in the desired amount of saturation and warmth using the recording gain knob and Magnetite will add the analog tape sonics to help create huge drums, distorted loops, and saturated vocals. Class A recording and playback amplifiers are modeled, as are tape response and saturation, NAB pre- and de-emphasis EQs, the sonic effect of different tape speeds and bias levels, even hiss and hum. Magnetite should be used as the first insert of your chain, which will simulate your signals being recorded to tape, but of course this is software. You can also go nuts.
Black Rooster Audio Magnetite is available now for $89 with an introductory price of $59 until July 31. It requires macOS 10.7 or later and an AU, VST, or AAX plugin host.
