Re: Which Mode

Hey there. I had a response a while back and saved it into my notes and forgot about it. My apologies. Here was what I had written: This really depends on how you're utilizing modes. What I think you're doing is comparable to jazz chord/scale theory in which every chord has a corresponding mode from...

Re: Which Mode

It depends on whether the D major chord is something that occurs regularly throughout the piece or if it's used as some kind of secondary dominant or temporary bit of contrast. If it's heard throughout (i.e. no D minor chords) then A Dorian seems like the best fit. D Mixolydian contains the same not...

Re: Logic pitch drift or hardware pitch drift?

Do you have access to a different controller to test? I'd suggest trying that so you can narrow down the problem to hardware or software (though I can't imagine how Logic would be doing this).

Finale 2014

MakeMusic has released Finale 2014. Its interface is finally fully Cocoa on the Mac side. So far it's feeling like the most responsive version yet interface wise. Note that they have dropped Snow Leopard support with this version so 10.7 or later is required. http://www.finalemusic.com/products/fina...

Sound Soap 3 by Soundness

So I just got an email telling me that Sound Soap 3 is out and that I can upgrade. Seems the company Soundness now has the rights to develop Sound Soap and the iPro Recorder previously developed by BIAS. http://www.soundness-llc.com/about.html But they say they don't have any plans to develop any of...

Re: Logic X is out!!!

Without scouring the manual yet, I haven't found a CPU meter or the old low-latency "perform" mode. Regarding the CPU meter, you can show it by clicking on the left side of the bars/beats display (icon of an eighth note and a metronome) and choosing "Custom." Fine tune the display by right-clicking...

Re: Logic X is out!!!

EFM1 is still there.

Event List is there.

Environment is there.

Overall I'm surprised that everything seems to be intact even though it feels like it's been streamlined ("GarageBand Pro").

You'd have to mention some bugs for me to test in order to know about that.

Re: Logic X is out!!!

No mathematical functions that I can find, but that's what Max is for. 8) What Automatic Drummer seems to be is a generator that creates its own type of dynamic MIDI regions. The Drummer interface lets you change parameters based on certain musical descriptions like "Loud", "Soft", "Simple", and "Co...

Re: Logic X is out!!!

I don't know...update vs. upgrade? How is it an upgrade if you never bought Logic before? I'm sure it's great whatever you call it...I would've liked to see of some sort of path...Is it that all app store prices are 'upgrade' prices now? cool! so prices should continue to go down as user base keeps...

Re: Logic X is out!!!

Would it be because it's a completely new version and not really an update? I don't know. oh, so it's not Logic anymore? It's a $199 update no way around that...unreal. I'm not following you. It's not an "update" it's an upgrade, i.e. a whole new version of Logic. And yes it's still Logic. As to th...

Re: resolving a melody

These classifications of non-harmonic tones are mostly applicable to classical harmony wherein seventh chords and some ninth chords are about the limit of what you find. The problem that arises is that if upper extensions (9ths, 11ths, & 13ths) can be considered chord tones above a root then that me...

Re: Resolving the 7th

There are examples of the sevenths happening in the melody that do not resolve downward. It probably would never sound bad to resolve a seventh downward in the melody since a melody that gives off strong harmonic implications is often a successful melody. But when it comes to melody uniqueness and i...

Re: Resolving the 7th

This first part will apply to both of your threads. When you start getting into seventh chords and extended tertian harmony (9ths, 11ths, and 13ths) the traditional rules for handling dissonance have to necessarily relax because intervals that were considered dissonances in earlier practice are now ...
