Do you recommend the SV-315, or the multiband one?

thanks,

It looks to me (from a cursory scan of the PSP site) like VW2 doesn't require iLok -- but you can authorize it with iLok if you want. (With that said, I'd also be interested to hear what other "special effect" compressors people are having good luck with in UB.)

Thanks for the feedback, all. I'm glad to hear that some folks are having good luck with Battery 3. I guess I can upgrade sooner rather than later, then.

btw, how is Kontakt on intel in general? I may still be interested in picking it up.

Is Kontakt a suitable (temporary) replacement for Battery?

I expect to be heading to an Intel Mac soon, which means that I'll need to find a replacement for Battery 2 in my projects. I've heard bad things about Battery 3 here and there, and I'm not keen on upgrading right away as a result. I expect I'll get Battery 3 once it's more stable, but would really ...

do you know what i am talking about w/ reason? in rewire mode it sends sample names. :) I didn't realize you were talking about Reason in rewire mode (I assumed you just meant Reason standalone, in its interface). That's a pretty nice feature. However, I still don't know how or if it would be possi...

will, i like your idea. little more work then i would like. esp. when i think it should be very doable by NI or Ableton to let the devices samples names show up on the piano roll, as is the case w/ reason. Yeah, I don't know -- is there some way for AU/VST plugs to communicate sample names back to ...

I make midi effect racks for, e.g. Battery kits that I use often, with one empty chain for each note. Then I give each chain the name of the instrument and select the "show names on fold" option. It's a little tedious to set them up, but it makes programming patterns much easier. I can usu...

Sampler is pure fun, and is a great way to use my EXS (+gig/sf2/etc) stuff in Live. It is very easy to use and offers a lot of great sample-mangling/sound design tools. I don't have anything useful to say about Operator (since I've just tried the demo), but it is appealing because it seems to be nar...

Thanks for the tip. I have been looking for an excuse to improve my (totally mediocre) guitar voice-leading.

There's nothing you should be doing. Ted Greene made that book very self contained. The trick is to see the chords in a larger context and orient them in relation to C A G E forms. Once you do that, you see the whole fingerboard as 4 - 5 zones with other notes attached. Ted Greene? What are you guy...

There are still issues whereby a quieter signal summed with a louder signal will wind up effectively being represented by fewer bits (lower amplitude resolution) in the summed result Yes, this is what I meant by my statement about floats being unevenly spaced: the difference between 1*10^1 and 2*10...

There are far more than 7 significant digits, and the value of one sample can be represented at full 24-bit precision without limiting the precision of any other value. Sorry, I meant seven decimal digits, which is about what a float gives you. I guess my main concern is round-off error when summin...

It's floating point. You can't overload a bus. There's 768dB of headroom above a nominal 0dB in the audio engine. It doesn't matter where in that range the summing is happening until you start trying to sum lots of tracks all cranked up to +700dB or so(!). Hi John, The thing that's confusing to me ...

You can configure your audio inputs and outputs in the preferences, but that's not the problem you're having. You will have to arm MIDI tracks for recording (it's the little "note" button at the bottom of the track) before your controller will send them notes. (You can specify which channe...

That's too bad. I recall when CM-505 was updated with an AU (and with auval compliance), and I guess I misremembered that it was/would be UB. (RM IV is certainly UB now.) I suppose the place to ask would be on the LinPlug forum at KVR.
