Logic/Soundflower/Max noob headache

Post by dubmon » 24 Nov 2009, 14:00

Hi,
Thought I'd try this here--I'm too intimidated to ask questions on the Cycling74 forum;), being such a noob.

I'm running the output of Logic, via Soundflower(16ch), into Max/MSP. I intend to run the output back into Logic. Seems simple enough. I have used Soundflower successfully in the past.
So, for example, after configuring Soundflowerbed, in Max I open up the "new from template", "audiostart" patcher. I can see I'm getting the output of Logic into Max, in both the Meters in the patcher and in the separate "Meterin" from "Extras". However, I cannot get any output from Max when I do this.

However, if I open some other existing Max patch from the Max "Examples", like one of the synths--anything that makes a noise basically, I get output from Max no prob, (shows up in "Meterout" too) and it goes back into Logic where I've assigned Soundflowerbed to send it without a hitch. So, I can get live audio into to Max, but I can't make that audio go back out.

Any ideas?

Can you post your patch?

If you're using Max 5 you can select everything in your patch and choose "Copy Compressed" under 'Edit,' then paste that into your post here on the forum.

Thanks,
Yeah I am, but I'm not even using a patch of my own devise here yet---I'm that much of a noob---I'm just trying to get the signal going in and out from Max as I describe using the "audiostart" template to try and things rolling, and as I say, signal comes in, but not back out! Using "Audiostart" I can see my signal from Logic coming in (via the patches meters and "Meterin", but no signal is output from Max. However, if I grab on of the existing example patches like "modsquad" or what-have-you, the output does work and is routed via Soundflower back into where I've assigned it in Logic (with no modification to the patch).

Ok sorry I missed the part about the Audiostart template.

The Audiostart template only gives you input (adc~) and output (dac~) but without any actual noise-making stuff in between them and more importantly without any connection between the input and output. The template is just there to quickly get you set up for having two inputs and two output channels, assuming that you'll then add some audio processing guts in between them. If you patch the left and right outlets of the adc~ to the left and right inlets of the dac~ then you should be able to hear whatever is coming from the first two inputs from Soundflower.
