AIFC (compressed) in 24 bit??

Post by andrewoak » 18 Mar 2013, 09:59

Can anyone tell me if I can use the AIFC format with compressed 24 bit material?

I want to distribute a product in this format. I have only encountered IMA 4:1 compression wich has a hopeless quality. Ads noise and other artefacts.

Anyone know of an app to convert Wav/aif into AIFC?? :?

Good old Max will do a few flavors of AIFC.

But the compressed codecs are all ancient. You've heard IMA sounds awful already. A-Law and u-law 2:1 are both based on the G.711 spec, which was made for telephony (I think a lot of these older codecs were) and tops out at an 8 kHz sampling rate.

Max will also do Linear PCM AIFC, but from what I can tell, it's just that. Not compressed. No size savings.

Why not use ALAC (Apple Lossless) in 2013?
