Our beloved OS X goes 10.2.8

Post by j33pd0g » 22 Sep 2003, 14:54

10.2.8 update is available in your software update. The description at apple included the following:

- Addresses a potential issue in which an audio application can unexpectedly quit when a USB- or FireWire-based audio device is disconnected.

More info can be found here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25524

Who will be the first to brave soul to update? I know I will wait and see what happens.

Woo hoo. The biggest part of this update for me is this:

Addresses a situation in which an external FireWire storage device would not become available (mount) and this message would appear: "A disk attempting to mount as 'unknown' has failed. Please use Disk Utility to check the disk."

This problem completly screwed me out of 40 gig drive. I was never able to repair it. It is sitting on my desk totally useless. Now I know my new one won't have that problem anymore.

And what happened to 10.2.7?

Btw, what happened to 10.2.7??? I know the g5 shipped with 10.2.7 but I don't remember seeing that on the download list.

As soon as I get home it goes on my machine. I'm not afraid!

10.2.7 is G5 only. They skipped a version for G4 & G3 based machines.

I just downloaded and installed the update, fired up Logic, and everything appears to be in order.

The 828 (mkI) is working fine too. No differences noticed so far.

Anyone running PT LE w/ 10.2.8? If so, how is it working?

And it seems this update is only for 10.2.6 or 10.2.7 G3 or G4s, specifically the update does not work for "Power Mac G5" computers. Hope this doesn't get confusing. Also about to take the plunge to update from Logic 6.1 tonight. Wish me luck :?

After reading this, I will wait a few days.

DeusOmnis on the macrumors forum had this to say:

Wonderful, now my sound card doesnt work... M-Audio Revolution. Thanks Apple, I appreciate how the Mac doesnt come w/ a sound card, and you make sure to disable the one I have.

I've updated and so far no problems. My FireStation still works (as it always has, at least); I'll spend some time later seeing if Apple has fixed any of the mLan kernel extension issues.

The 10.2.8 update addresses this for audio:

Addresses a potential issue in which an audio application can unexpectedly quit when a USB- or FireWire-based audio device is disconnected.

Has anyone actually had this problem??? I know I have done it before with my quattro in a couple audio programs and expierenced no problems.

I've had it happen a few times, though not very often since I normally close my projects before my routine of powering down items in my setup.

every time I'd unplug my emi6|2m all my apps using it would unexpectedly quit instead of automatically switching over to the built in audio. This seems to be fixed.
