I seem to have done everything right - or so I thought. I have placed custome icons in ~library/application support/logic/images/icons and followed the labeling scheme (in this case 254.png) and expiremented with several variations. None seem to work.

I should mention ethat I am in Logic Express. Is this a Pro only feature ?

Thanks

Can you set logic up so that the icons automatically change depending on which instrument you have loaded on an Audio Instrument track?

If so - how?

there is no icon folder. it is called images.....( i know, it s not in da manual )
look for: application support- logic- images......
give every icon a three digit number before the name. then they appear in logic...

You can change icons by going to Applications/Logic.

Right-click on Logic and select 'show package contents'. Double-click contents then resources and then go into images/icons.

Rename your new icon with the number.png that you're replacing, drag it into the icons folder and choose replace. Works in Express and Pro :)

Icons plus many other options and buttons take up space in the arrange and are like toys and could be turned off ,try it .
Are they productive OR just time wasting ???

Have you noticed that Logic scales the icons to fit the available space in each track in the arrange window? They only have to take up as much space as the user chooses to let them take, which at the minimum zoom level is very, very little.

As for whether they're productive or time-wasting, for me they're productive AND time-saving. Distinct icons make it easier to quickly select the correct track, instead of squinting at the screen to spot the track names.

i work with a very prolific movie composer and he has icons on everything, it helps him spot things quicker through thousands of folders and hundreds of tracks through many overlapping projects.

time saver for him...

also...strange that this "apple" app has such un-friendly ways to add icons.

hope that logic 8 clears up this "under-the-hood" old mess.
