Logic Studio 9 versus Logic Express 9?

Post by Slovenec » 27 Jul 2009, 22:54

It seems that Logic Express 9 is going to come with a lot of the new features of the full Studio version including all the new Flex and Guitar stuff.

What is the main difference between the 2 packages besides the obivous extra apps and huge library that come with Logic Studio?

Logic Express 9 is actually the same as Logic Pro 9 - without the following features:
- DAE/TDM support
- DAP (distributed audio processing with Logic Node)
- Surround
- EVP88
- EVB3
- EVD6
- Sculpture
- Space Designer
- Delay Designer
- Linear Phase EQ
- Match EQ
- Multipressor (there is only the 'Preset Multipressor' as in LE7/8)

Thanks for that information.

So basically, there is still a lot missing when compared to Logic Studio but at the same time, you still get a huge amount for your money if you buy Logic Express. :)

are you sure about this?

from the apple-homepage:
Warped Effects for Space Designer
More than 450 warped impulse responses radically transform what Space Designer can do, allowing you to give ordinary sounds a bizarre, other-worldly quality.
Mix in surround.
Logic Express offers end-to-end surround capabilities, so you can record, edit, mix and encode projects in surround up to 7.1. Graphic surround panning lets you precisely position audio in a Quad, LCRS, 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 surround field. Surround support includes multichannel signal routing, and you can submix surround tracks or use sends to route audio to surround auxiliary tracks.
and in the store there is a picture of "delay designer".

although i don't think that space/delay designer is really included (maybe a "copy and paste"-mistake on the apple page).
not sure about the surround-thing of course.

Yes, I'm sure.

I think you might have been looking at the Logic Pro/Logic Studio FX info.
Space Designer/Delay Designer - and surround support - are definitely NOT in LE.

There was a temporary error where this info WAS on the Express site, but it was removed. Perhaps you are looking at a cached version of this/these page(s)?

ok thanks.

i was on the "german" page: http://www.apple.com/de/logicexpress/whats-new.html

it's still there. the same goes for the delay-designer picture in the apple-store.
i don't need surround, but space/delay designer would have been really nice ;)

I am 100% sure. In fact, on the US website, that mistake has already been corrected. No Space Designer, no Warped Effects, no Jam Pack Voices, and certainly, no surround features.

What's the diff in installation size?

No difference in CPU usage I'm assuming if you don't use Space Designer in the first place.
