Wolfgang Palm, the originator of wavetable synthesis and founder/owner of PPG, today released PPG Phonem, a vocal synthesis plug-in that’s also capable of producing a wide range of synthesizer sounds. Every aspect of the voice can be controlled and modulated in many ways, from a quiet whisper to a scream. A text-to-speech tool strings phonemes together to say or sing whatever you want, coming from 12 individual resonators which can produce vocal sounds as well as filter sweeps and effects. The “excitation” source simulates the human glottis while wavetables and time-corrected-samples (TCS) drive the filter. PPG Phonem is available today for €119 (around $127). It requires OS X 10.6 or later (10.7 for 64-bit) and an AU or VST plug-in host.
