In 2002, Virtual Guitarist was the first great playable guitar plug-in, and it remained that way until modern computer updates and parent company acquisitions made it difficult to use. Few have stepped up to complete fill that void since. Good things come to those who wait, apparently, because Virtual Guitarist IRON is the first of three new plug-ins from UJAM and some of the original VG developers, and it looks impressive.
VG-IRON seems to be focused on metal rock styles in its demos (hence the name), though it does boast more than 1100 phrases grouped into 100 Styles, with multiple amps and effects. As the original did, VG-IRON includes controls for feel, swing, and that glorious stereo doubling. More Virtual Guitarist plug-ins are promised soon, each with a unique guitarist personality.
Virtual Guitarist IRON is available now for $99.00. On the Mac it requires OS X 10.9 or later, an AU or VST plug-in host, and 6 GB of disk space. It supports Native Instruments NKS.
