Kush Audio has released Omega Transformer 458a, their first foray into true tube emulation. This Omega Transformer is based on the Altec 458a tube preamp, which is not quite obscure but still unknown to most. It has a fat tone that “craps out in a very delicious way”, getting intensely crusty but never harsh, turning cymbals from brass to gold, and gluing bass into a molten fiery blob of love. Riding just on the edge of the 458a’s breakup can transform something limp into something animated and alive, with a fat bottom and velvety top-end presence that can’t be duplicated using conventional EQ techniques.
The Kush Audio Omega Transformer 458a is available now for $29. You can also subscribe to this (and every other) Kush plugin for $9.99 a month. It requires macOS 10.9 or later, an AU, VST, or AAX plugin host, and an iLok account. An iLok USB dongle is not required.
