Delivering on their #1 feature request, VST plugins are coming to Reason. Any VST 2.4 compliant instrument or effect plugin will work. VSTs live in the new Plugin Rack Device that sits in the Reason rack, where you can open the plugin window with a simple click. Drag & Drop from the browser, use CV with your plugins, add Players, put them in Combinators with Reason’s own devices or Rack Extensions — all the things you expect when working in Reason.
Is this, however, the end of Rack Extensions already? According to Propellerhead, “Reason now supports two plugin formats and Rack Extensions will remain a key Reason technology.”
Reason 9.5 is currently in beta testing, which is open to owners of Reason 9 or Reason Essentials 9. If you own Reason 9, then the new version is a free update. Buy Reason 9 today and get the 9.5 update for free on May 29.
