Softube has released the Weiss DS1-MK3 mastering compression, limiting, and de-essing plugin. The hardware DS1-MK3 boasts transparency, versatility, and exceptional sound quality, which is why it can be heard (or rather not heard) on many major records from the last twenty years. Softube has code-ported the digital unit line-by-line to create this plugin, which is officially licensed and endorsed by Daniel Weiss himself.
Bob Katz, Mastering Engineer:
The DS1-MK3 hardware is as transparent as anything I’ve ever used. It’s refined, ergonomic, and flexible. It’s not ‘digital-sounding’… That’s a very rare quality in a digital processor.
Daniel Weiss, Founder of Weiss Engineering:
The Weiss DS1-MK3 plug-in sounds exactly the same as the hardware based DS1-MK3.
Softube is also offering the the Weiss MM-1 Mastering Maximizer plugin, again based on the Weiss DS1-MK3 but limited to five flavors of, well, limiting (Transparent, Loud, Punch, Wide, and De-ess) that intelligently progresses as the “Amount” knob turns, and blend-able with the mix control, to give you precisely the right amount of power over the feel of your masters.
The Weiss MM-1 Mastering Maximizer is $199, with an introductory price of $179. The Weiss DS1-MK3, which includes the MM-1, is $549 with an intro price of $499. Both are available now. They require macOS 10.9 or later and an AU, VST, or AAX plugin host.
