VCV has released version 1.0 of their Rack open-source virtual modular synthesizer app. New features in this release include 16 voice polyphony with the full flexibility of modular patching. Cables automatically turn polyphonic when requested by MIDI modules, sequencers, etc. You can now control external MIDI hardware with Rack modules such as CV-GATE for drum machines, CV-MIDI for desktop synths, and CV-CC for Eurorack interfaces. Rack now allows mapping of MIDI controllers to its knobs, buttons, and sliders. A new module browser lets you search, filter, and view modules in your collection. Rack can now use multiple CPU threads to maximize the number of modules. But most of all, it’s here, it’s version 1.0, and it’s still free and open source. The only big deal not happening right now is the plugin, but that’s being promised in the next version.
VCV Rack 1.0 is available now for free. It requires macOS 10.7 or later.
