Synapse Audio Software, makers of Dune and The Legend (one of the best Minimoog emulations available), has released Obsession, a new poly-analog modeled vintage synthesizer. Obsession combines careful modeling of VCOs, VCF and VCA with a comprehensive individual voice control that has never been done before in this detail. Each virtual voice board can differ noticeably from the others in many ways, creating that organic, lively sound that vintage-analog poly synths are famous for. The “back panel” of Obsession gives access to an effects section, a modulation matrix, as well as LFO Steps control. The high-quality Shimmer reverb coded by Mirko Ruta expands pads and leads. A stereo delay as well as a Chorus/Ensemble effect can be applied to enhance the output even more. Temperature-dependent fluctuations can be simulated by the “Organic” knob, and yet, none of these extras in any way reduce this plugin’s power and punch. The results are very impressive for a software synthesizer. This thing sounds good.
Synapse Audio Obsession is available now for $99. It requires macOS 10.11 or later and an AU, VST, or AAX plugin host.
