what is lacking in Logic that require 3rd party plug-ins?

What am I missing by sticking to the basic Logic install? Do I really "need" to purchase additional plugins, eg. a gazllion eq's?

newbie asks: software vs audio tracks

Hi - In GarageBand an audio track refers to instruments actually being recorded, but in Logic Express I was confused when trying the Synful Orchestra demo, which said to open an audio track -- is it not a software instrument?. Could someone explain these distinctions to me? Thanks, AA

I've been OK on a G4 with Leopard but started with a clean install and re-installed all audio stuff. The only problem I've had is latency and easy cpu overload with some synths. BTW there is a terminal command that will "bless" a backup drive to make it bootable. You might want to check on Google. r...

is there anything you cant do on 32 that you can do on 64? moreover, you seem to care more about the memory. well, the new mac pros can have up to 32 GB of ram..... Will you still run into these "limitations"? Ah - yes. It is clear that you don't know about the memory limitations of Logic and other...

Interface sample rate vs. software sample rate

Hi - I am unsure of the relation to setting the sample rate for my Firebox to 48k Audio In/Out (in the Audio Midi Setup utility) and a sample rate as set within a software instrument (eg. Akoustik Piano). Does the latter require the former? Or is the hardware setting only for audio-input recording? ...

Interestingly, Activity Monitor shows extremely low CPU usage for system processes even with Dashboard & Spotlight, which I used to disable. No CPU Spikes. No crackles on Akoustik Piano. I'm on a G4 so it's a pretty good test.

I wonder if there is an adapter for MIDI to XLR?

Or if one used a USB MIDI adapter would that have more latency?

I've used the UNO with my digital piano. Try checking that your audio is set to your UNO in both Audio Midi Setup, System Sound preferences, and in Gargeband MIDI preferences.

Are you sure your keyboard is velocity sensitive? If so, is it transmitting velocities to other plugin instruments properly? Sure your midi interface or host isn't filtering out velocity information? Hi - I'm using a Casio CPD100 Digital Piano which should be adequate. I thought I had it working ri...
