What happens when the total length exceeds redbook standard?

Post by henryrobinett » 16 Oct 2015, 07:34

What happens when the total length exceeds redbook standard of 74 minutes? I have my CD which prints from iTunes and Toast and DSP Quattro, but it gives me a warning that the length exceeds. he length is 1:15:08. Will I get more defective discs? Will manufacturers refuse to print?

what's a CD? ;)

afaik 74 minutes is max for a commercial audio CD.. but if you need details call and speak to the people who press CDs. i'm sure they can instruct you more accurately than anyone here.

I was informed by some mastering engineers that although 74 is the maximum stated red book standard, to go over most manufacturers require a signed waiver. The problems happen over 79 minutes. Mine is slightly over 75. So I should be fine.

Thanks. I tihnk one of my previous CDs was over 74 minutes as well. That was commercially released. I'll have to check.
