Sample on Network Drive

So guys,

I've been considering setting up an old MPB (with dead screen) as a network hub and wanted to use that as my sample library since my SSD is over full. Has anyone any experience with this? Latency issues, slow transfer? Any info at all would be great since this will be my first home network.
