Mac won't restart

Mac won't restart
Hey folks. I've noticed over the last month Mac won't restart. I'm 10.10. All apps will close but I have to hard reset by holding down the button until it shuts down. Then again to boot up. Ideas?

What exactly is it doing when it won't restart? Does it get to the stage where it shows the "spinner" working?
WIll it Shut Down if you choose that instead?

No spinning. It's just the screen picture, all apps closed, ready to restart but it just sits there. Nothing until I physically do it myself.

So what do you think it could be? I think my Disk Warrior 4.4 might be too old to use with the current OS? Not sure. I've reset the PRAM. I'm going to repair permissions.

I'd still try a Shut Down instead of a Restart, just to see if there's any difference.
If neither get to the spinner stage, it may be something in software preventing the OS from "letting go". Have you had a look at Activity Monitor or the Console logs lately?
