In-house tests showed, that u-he plugins work fine on Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) and Windows 10. However, please make sure, that all your software and hardware is compatible, when upgrading to a new operating system. And always backup your current system!

El Capitan GM (direct from Apple through my beta license):

All Arturia and Native-Instruments plugins are crashing validation in Logic Pro 10.2. Yikes! Melda MRotary says "validation result: couldn't be opened".

U-he, GForce, IK, Korg, PSP, Roland, Slate, Softube, Synthogy, TAL, UAD, Soundtoys, Valhalla, Way Out Ware, Waldorf, XILS all seem to be working (at least the plugins I have)!

32 Lives resurrected plugins took some massaging and restarting to get going. Altiverb 6 worked "resurrected" in Yosemite but now it fails validation and doesn't appear in Logic.

I did a test with GarageBand and the free Hosting AU app and everything opens, including the wrapped Altiverb 6. So it appears everything can run, but something new in El Capitan has changed AU validation for Logic.

I also tried some Waves and Roland Plug-Out beta versions and they worked fine.

Our engineering teams are actively working to address the following known issues:

1. Plug-ins may not be able to pass AU (Audio Units) validation, which means they will not load in hosts that support the AU plug-in format.
2. Dialog windows within the plug-in (such as the "Do you want to overwrite?" window in the Preset Browser) may no longer appear.

2015-11-03: Hardware fixed

Incompatibility between some older NI devices and OS X 10.11 has been discovered. This issue triggers kernel panics that crash the connected computer immediately, resulting in loss of any unsaved work, or serious disruption of a performance. There are drivers already available that fix this issue. You can download the driver version 2.8.0 for your corresponding device here.

2015-10-22: OS X 10.11.1 fixes the AU plug-in issue (for Native Instruments, at least)

Please download and install the OS X 10.11.1 update... This update fixes an issue whereby Native Instruments Audio Units plug-ins will not pass the AU validation and therefore will not be available in Logic Pro X.

Note: If your AU plug-ins do not appear in Logic Pro X after updating to OS X 10.11.1, please rescan your plug-in folders.

As abernathy pointed out, NI is warning all users against upgrading to OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) right away, due to two separate compatibility issues concerning KOMPLETE, MASCHINE and TRAKTOR products.

All Native Instruments Audio Units plug-ins will not pass the AU validation and therefore will not be available in Logic Pro X under OS X 10.11. The root cause of this issue has been identified and a workaround is still being developed in close contact with Apple. We will keep you updated on any developments regarding this issue.

An updated El Capitan Compatibility article from Gobbler (below) suggests Slate Digital's plug-ins may be ok with OS X 10.11.1 and their most recent VMR build.

Slate Digital Plugins have been tested on OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) and we recommend to not upgrade your system.

We have confirmed a crash with the Virtual Mix Rack during the AU validation in Logic. We are currently working on this issue and we will keep you updated with compatibility moving forward.

Cubase 8.0.35 update now available
The update resolves several issues in different areas of the applications and offers compatibility with OS X 10.11 (El Capitan).

Audio interface El Capitan compatibility update
The Yamaha Steinberg USB driver v1.9.7 for OS X has been released. This resolves the issue that caused audio dropouts when running OS X 10.11.1.

UR22mkII firmware update available
The firmware version 1.02 resolves the hardware recognition issue with the UR22mkII when running on OS X 10.11.0 and 10.11.1.

In our first statement we were unable to issue a recommendation. We continued to run a considerable number of tests and have come across additional, previously unknown issues. This means that the availability of compatible product versions is further delayed.

We deeply regret the unfortunate news which leads us to advise against updating to OS X 10.11. We’ll keep you posted on anything new.

On September 30 Apple will release the new OS X version El Capitan. Our first tests show that different issues occur when running Steinberg products under OS X 10.11. We therefore cannot recommend our customers to update to El Capitan.

Detailed information regarding product compatibility will be published from October 23, 2015, after completing all compatibility tests. However, we can inform you today that Cubase 8.0.30, Nuendo 7.0.30 and the MR Tools and UR drivers are not compatible with El Capitan and advise you not to update your operating system until we provide compatible versions.

If you rely on a trouble-free operation of our products, we recommend waiting with the update of El Capitan until the entire compatibility chart for all Steinberg products has been published.

Compatibility warning

Apple is about to release a new version of its operating system, Mac OS X 10.11, El Capitan.

Our testing team is still working on the qualification of the Arturia software instruments with the new Mac OS X 10.11, El Capitan. At that point, from what we see, this update may affect operations of these instruments when in Audio Unit or standalone mode.

We are working with Apple to solve some issues. Indeed some of them could need a release either from Arturia or Apple.

For this reason, if you want to make sure your Arturia software keeps working properly, we recommend that you postpone the update of Mac OS to "El Capitan" until Apple resolves these compatibility issues.

We will keep you informed about the evolution of this situation.

The Slate Team has told us that the latest VMR build is fully supported by El Capitan.

They are still in the process of updating the other plugins for El Capitan optimization but they should actually all work fine now, thanks to some of the latest fixes in the most recent El Capitan release.

Please note: Gobbler 2.0 collaboration app is now fully compatible with OS X 10.11 El Capitan.

Should I upgrade to OS X 10.11?

If you plan to upgrade to OS X 10.10, please be aware that there's always a risk that a new operating system introduces unforeseen problems or incompatibilities with your DAW, third party plug-ins (VST / AU), hardware drivers or other software tools you are using. We strongly recommend checking with each manufacturer if your software and hardware will work with the new operating system.

If you are working on time-critical projects, we'd recommend staying with your current operating system for the time being.

Are there any known issues with OS X 10.11?

At the moment there are no known issues with Live and OSX 10.11.
