Big Sur And Apple Silicon...

macOS 11 "Big Sur" was announced last month, along with ARM-based Mac hardware. We are making every effort to ensure that all currently-available Audio Damage products will be ready for Big Sur and Apple Silicon on day one. Obviously, we are under a strict NDA, and can't really share the details of our experience with you. However, we can say that thus far our testing shows a problem-free transition. We can't speak to external interfaces and such-like, and we are currently somewhat limited in our available tools, but as far as our software running on Apple's hardware goes, you should experience no difficulties.
Update 11 Nov 2020:

https://www.audiodamage.com/blogs/news/ ... le-silicon
We have begun our port to Apple Silicon, and have already updated some products. We hope to have everything done by the end of November.

Having said that, it should be noted that our testing has shown that native Apple Silicon hosts don't really seem to care whether the plugin is Intel or ARM. In our testing so far, our own products are indistinguishable in the Apple Silicon native versions of Logic and Mainstage, as are the other plugins we have tried from our friends in the industry.

On the whole, our general opinion is that as a producer you won't really notice (or even be able to tell) whether a plugin or host is running native ARM or in Rosetta 2. The CPU load should be more or less the same; the ARM version may be slightly lower, but this is difficult to measure consistently. If you run in to any problems at all, please let us know at the earliest convenience, so that we may address any issues. Our ability to test in this environment is limited by the fact that hardly any hosts have been ported to Apple Silicon at this time, so we are, to a certain extent, relying on you to tell us.

Unify is up and running on Apple Silicon! Just received my Apple Developer Transition Kit today (ARM based Mac Mini). This is the regular Intel build running under Rosetta; it works very well and loads third-party plug-ins. I have also succeeded in compiling Unify for ARM, and it works very well, but does not load third-party plug-ins compiled for Intel. (Guru Sampler and all the other built-ins work beautifully.)

Spectrasonics

via email
Greetings from Spectrasonics!

We wanted to let you know about some important upcoming compatibility info. Apple will soon be releasing macOS11, aka “Big Sur” in the coming weeks.

Please be aware that current versions of Spectrasonics instruments DO NOT WORK yet with this new operating system and will require a maintenance update from us to do so.

We strongly recommend waiting to upgrade your macOS until we’ve ensured Big Sur compatibility with our virtual instruments. We are currently working closely with Apple and will have these free updates to share with you soon. Thanks!

Youlean

via email
I have tested everything on the macOS Big Sur and we should be good to go!

Once Apple releases the Apple Silicone machines, I will grab one and start porting the loudness meter to it. In my case, it won't be a simple port like Apple is claiming. I have talked with other devs, and others will have a various amount of difficulty porting, so it all depends from dev to dev.

Just to know in case you want to purchase the new shiny ARM MacBooks.

u-he

https://u-he.com/products/zebra2/releas ... html#10374
The Dark Zebra 2.9.2 is now fully NKS-ready and macOS 10.16 "Big Sur" compatible.
The regular Zebra2 is now also macOS 10.16 "Big Sur" compatible. We improved the preset browsing experience, added support for bank names, and implemented various minor tweaks. You can read the full list of changes in the release notes.
https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopi ... 1&t=550513
All current release versions of u-he plugins are generally compatible with Big Sur, with one exception.

If you are using any of Apple's own DAWs, be it Logic, MainStage or GarageBand, the Uhbik plugins won't load anymore. It is still recognized by the host, but trying to load it will result in an error message. Uhbik is working fine in other hosts.
Update 8 Dec 2020

Diva with Rosetta2 on Apple M1

We now have a first version running natively on the M1 (i.e. without using Rosetta2).
Check out the very impressive test results.

Update 10 Aug 2021
Our update brings you native support for Apple Silicon hardware. This will massively improve performance on the latest generation of Macintosh computers. We have also optimized GUI speed and added lots of tweaks and improvements to our plugins on all platforms.

GForce

https://www.gforcesoftware.com/blog/mac ... mber-2020/
GFheadingBigSur.jpg

With the Apple event on the 10th November, 2020 likely to announce Big Sur, their latest macOS, now is a pertinent time to talk about our instrument compatibility.

To ensure you can continue to work with your musical tools unimpeded, we firmly recommend that you DO NOT UPGRADE to macOS Big Sur until you have confirmed that all your tools, including your DAW, plug-in instruments and effects, are fully compatible with the latest macOS, Big Sur.

Here at GForce, we have tested our instruments in pre-release versions of Big Sur with mixed results. Minimonsta, Oddity2 and impOSCar2 are not yet compatible and work to update these instruments will be a major engineering undertaking.

Given this, we are working toward compatibility with future Apple silicon machines updating Minimonsta, Oddity2 and impOSCar2 with additional features and, perhaps crucially, larger user interfaces. Given the weight of change, this is likely to take a long time.

Having recently updated both M-Tron Pro and VSM, ensuring their compatibility with Big Sur was reasonably straightforward requiring new standalone versions and installers. If you have the latest version of these installed, they will work seamlessly with Big Sur. If not, provided you have a registered copy in your account, you can download the installers here.
