putte´s perfect performance ..

Post by putte » 16 Apr 2004, 00:35

After all my nightmare and the trouble doing my transition to osX it now looks like as if i finally landed. But furthermore i have now the best audio performance i ever had!

Since 2 days i can have a song open packed with AU´s and tracks, with the cpu-meter going into the red, and while logic just plays without any dropouts or crickles i can even browse the web or write a post, check emails etc.

wow .. the perfect perfomance!

Yes .. after trying out so many things and settings i start getting a new feeling towards all this, and i think i can even get a little-bit-better friend with Audio Units. Image

There are still some strange things going on, but suddenly not at the audio-side of things, but with the rest.
I´ll check that out further ..

Now you may ask what was the key to the sucess?

What i did was trying out the combinations i could have with these components:

osX 10.3.2 or osX 10.3.3
Logic Pro 6.4.1 or Logic Platinum 6.3.2
Old Metric drivers or latest ones

Additionally i used DiskWarrior at a late point, which seem to have helped a lot!
And of course i carefully watched my AU´s, did some tests with a stop-watch to see which au-components took so long to load/initialize.
(it was the latest release of Reaktor, which took 1:17 minutes to initialize)

And i found that the virtual memory of EXS24 wasnt activated, which caused logic to take 1:20 minutes switching from one song to the next. After activating it was just 20 seconds.

Again: thank you all for keeping the patience with the little hun, and for all the tips, tricks, chicks, bricks and clicks.

I now hope that i really landed, and that its not just a few days with a good performance ..

thanks,
cheers

Hi Putte

I remember you saying you had an UAD-1 card. Is it now a part of your flawless system? That 'd be great
If so, you're one of few...Most of us still experience pops and cracks from time to time.

But congrats!

So what? - You take away the only fun of a lonely developers life? - No more Putte rants to react on? - You call that an improvement?

Could you at least keep an instable system on your 2nd harddrive? Some kinda schizophrenia, so that for every song you post you also deliver a new desaster message or two?

Sheeesh...

Ok. Congrats anyway...

Let's get Mulberry to switch from PC. That should be just as interesting! ;)

So happy to hear, Putte! The only thing is... you're a bit behind by now. You really should switch to OS XI - makes a big difference! With OS XI (code name Sylvester) you can finally use the new Apple SoundBlock plug-ins. Much, much better than AU! I hear that Urs' new Gazelle will be a SoundBlock: unlimited granular resynthesis pre-emptive modelization, in anticipatory real-time! :P

Yeah I'm not too sure about Logic's new butt plugs, the dongle wasn't as much of a PITA! I'm starting to get used to it though, and that's making me question my sexuality!

How much do the butt plugs cost? I've been wanting to add one to my system for years, but was always afraid they may take a little getting used to. Do they make small ones, so you can get used to them? I was thinking maybe a small vibrato.

To harness the butt plug, you need to make use of the astroglide (AG) protocol built into the OS.

I still can't believe Putte has joined the ranks.

Fuc: You should buy a used butt plug, much cheaper.

I'm not so sure about this, as we all know there is a risk of getting cracks.
