EMU Xboard 49

Post by tbokich » 29 Jun 2016, 14:10

Hello
I have a Mac Mini running El Capitan. I am trying to get an EMU Xboard 49 midi controller to run on it but when I try to load the latest driver it says no software is in the download. Anybody have any ideas to get it to work
Thanks
T

This sounds like a problem with the download itself. Have you contacted whoever puts E-mu stuff out now? Is it Creative?

I have been writing emu support for months and they do not respond. I have download every version of the software I could find. None of them say it is for el captain but just for osx. Should I dump the keyboard?

Just to be sure, you have downloaded the Mac installer here?

http://support.creative.com/downloads/d ... oadId=9650

The download seems to work fine here, resulting in a mount-able .dmg file. When double-clicking the .mpkg installer inside, I get a warning that it's from an unidentified developer. That's just because the file is old. You can right-click the same file, select Open, and the same warning dialog will now have an additional Open button. Since you know where the download came from, this should be perfectly safe.

The other issue here is that the installer is from 2006. Anything from around 2007 and earlier may not even be Intel aware (old PowerPC only). If so, it won't run at all in El Capitan.

Personally, I would dump the keyboard. You can get a brand new Novation Launchkey 49 for around $169 street, it's fantastic (I love mine), and it will never require drivers.

I had a similar problem and found a simple fix to use the xboard with the latest Mac OS Mojave (2019) which I'm posting in case it can help.

1. Exit Logic. Ensure xboard is switched off.

2. Open logic to what ever you are working on, wait 10 seconds to ensure everything is loaded.

3. Switch on xboard, don't touch any of the knobs or buttons, wait 10 seconds for logic to recognise the xboard.

4. Now play the xboard and should work ok.

Hope this helps someone.
